This year's Theatre Restaurant Production - "Rome Sweet Rome"

Friday 1st & Saturday 2nd September, 2006

The Bell Race Club will present their 9th annual theatre restaurant production at the Bell Memorial Public Hall.  The three act musical comedy titled "Rome Sweet Rome" is set in Emperor Nero's period of influence.  "Rome Sweet Rome" ................be it ever so humble.   Rome.......the capital of the ancient world.  The greatest empire the world has ever seen.  A hot-bed of corruption, vice and tyranny.  Ruled by an iron fist and the childish antics of Nero - who in turn is ruled by his mother, Tartina..............but it does not stop there.  Everybody listens and obeys Cassandra - who has, as the Sayer of the Sooth, a hot-line to the Gods.  Add to this a hero and heroine, gladiators, temple maidens and a mish-mash of hysterical characters, and a bit of fiddling - then you have a riotous, hilarious, musical comedy set to knock your socks off!

The Bell Race Club's eighth annual theatre restaurant opened recently to a rousing reception from patrons at the  Peranga Hall, Jandowae Hall and Bell Memorial Public Hall.

This year's production "A Wink at the Sphinx" was written by Judith Prior of Bundaberg.

Denis Hillman composed and arranged some musical numbers specially for the play and teamed with musical director Kevin Sullivan to deliver a crowd pleasing musical production. The special lighting effects were attended to by Ian Williams. Wardrobe mistress Lorraine Hopewell  assisted by Sarah McGregor, Julie Steverink, Ruth Storey and others designed and created the very colourful costumes and the special "Egyptian" makeup was attended to by Kerri-anne White. Prompt Donna Murray ensures a line is not missed.  Very entertaining M.C. Wayne Bradshaw keeps the audience enthralled between acts.

Directed by Ruth Storey, these very successful Theatre Restaurant Productions have been playing to local and regional audiences since 1998.

Bell Catering Team leaders Julie Steverink, Jeanette Copeman and Barry Storey together with their catering team presented a dinner menu themed to suit the Egyptian style for around 370 theatre patrons.

Over 60 community minded volunteers play an integral part in the cast, crew, musical correlation, back stage, back drop artistry, costume design,  lighting & sound, catering and hospitality to bring the lively production to fruition.

Held annually in September - Producers,  the Bell Race Club Social Club are gearing up for the 2006 production.
