Born on the 23rd March 1927, Arthur learnt many valuable life lessons that would set the stage for his own rich working life that began at the age of 13 within Appleton's lamp factory. It was also at this stage of his life that his interest in engines and machinery began, as he was gifted his first engine, a modified motor bike engine that was used for pumping water by his Grandmother. The remainder of his early working life was spent droving with Billy Kinghorn moving both cattle and horses from the NSW boarder crossing at Mount Lindsay to Beaudesert, Cannon Hill and beyond to making butter boxes at Toowong Saw Mill and moving onto the Queensland Timber Mill where he held the position of planer. Upon settling in Bell in 1980, he renewed his interest in restoring and repairing motors and machinery to build an extensive and unique private collection.
Part of Arthur's extensive collection has been generously gifted to Bell & District and will be permanently displayed in "Popey's Shed" with Wambo Shire Council as trustees.
